VMA Transport Stream Monitor

Monitor dozens or hundreds of Transport Streams in real time with the new VMA Transport Stream Monitor platform.

A distributed Probe + Monitor architecture ensures a scalable, fault-tolerant, and high-performance solution suitable for teleports, broadcasters, ISPs, IPTV operators, and satellite uplink/downlink stations.

Distributed Architecture (Probe + Monitor)

The system is composed of:

VMA Probe

A lightweight Windows service that:

  • Receives one or more MPEG-TS inputs (UDP/RTP/SRT/HLS/TS file)
  • Extracts all services (PCR, video, audio, SI/PSI tables)
  • Generates real-time metrics
  • Logs TR-101-290 events
  • Provides 6 panel mosaic (with auto channel switching)
  • Sends everything to the VMA Monitor via HTTP

Multiple Probes can run across your network!

VMA Monitor

A central server that:

  • Receives data from all Probes
  • Displays all TS in a high-density mosaic (6, 12, 24 or more panels per page)
  • Shows per-service statistics, alarms, and bitrate
  • Stores long-term logs (SQLite)
  • Provides browser-based dashboards (no installation required)

This architecture scales from 1 stream to 80+ simultaneous TS.

Main Features

๐ŸŽ› Real-Time Monitoring

  • Instant status of all services
  • TR-101-290 Priority 1/2/3
  • Bitrate per service and per PID
  • Missing streams, black screen, freeze, silence, low bitrate
  • PCR accuracy, continuity counter, bitrate peaks

๐Ÿ–ฅ High-Density Mosaic

  • 6 programs visible simultaneously
  • Pages switch automatically or manually

๐Ÿ“Š Analytics & Metrics

  • Global TS health
  • Per-service metrics
  • PCR jitter
  • CC errors
  • Video freeze / black frame detection
  • Audio silence detection
  • PTS/DTS analysis (optional)

๐Ÿงฉ SI/PSI Table Decoding

Full table extraction:

  • PAT / PMT / SDT / NIT / CAT / EIT
  • CA descriptors
  • Full network ID and operator ID decoding

๐Ÿ“ Event Logging (SQLite + Browser)

Includes complete TR-101-290 event log, searchable and filterable by:

  • Timestamp
  • Probe
  • Transport Stream
  • Service
  • PID
  • Event type
  • Duration

Logs are stored on disk for long-term analysis.

Scalability

The platform was tested with:

  • 72 services at ~38 Mbit/s
  • 20+ Probes feeding one Monitor
  • 100+ Mbps sustained throughput per Probe

The system is optimized for teleports handling:

  • 80+ downlink TS
  • 20+ uplink TS
  • 12+ monitoring workstations

Hardware Requirements
