The Browser-based Video Pattern Generator is a lightweight test pattern generator that runs entirely in a standard web browser, without requiring any software installation or external hardware. It provides a selection of commonly used video test patterns such as SMPTE colour bars, PLUGE, grayscale ramps and steps, geometry and convergence grids, crosshairs, and a range of animated patterns, making it suitable for quick display checks and demonstrations.
The tool is designed for visual verification of monitors, projectors, and video signal paths, allowing users to assess basic properties such as brightness, contrast, colour balance, uniformity, scaling behaviour, geometry, and motion handling. Patterns such as PLUGE and grayscale ramps support black-level and contrast setup, while geometry grids, checkerboards, and zone plates help identify scaling artefacts, aspect-ratio errors, and spatial distortions.

A number of animated patterns are included to expose issues related to motion processing, temporal artefacts, colour cycling, and display response—effects that are often difficult to observe using static images alone. The tool supports browser fullscreen mode, enabling patterns to be shown full-screen on the target display for more accurate visual inspection.
All pattern generation is performed locally in the browser; no video data is uploaded, stored, or transmitted. This makes the tool suitable for use in controlled environments, classrooms, laboratories, or field setups where installing dedicated test equipment is impractical.
The Browser-based Video Pattern Generator is intended for basic checks, demonstrations, education, and exploratory testing, complementing professional hardware pattern generators and measurement instruments rather than replacing them.

To use the tool in a video chain, move the browser window to a secondary screen, select the desired test pattern, and press F11 to enter fullscreen mode. The HDMI output of that display can then be fed into the downstream signal chain for monitoring or testing purposes.
